Modeling Request

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 24, 2008, 11:13 AM
I am now accepting any request for a model which will be completed in 3Ds Max. This may be a person, place or thing. You may have dseigned a character and you would like it modeled by me. This is totally acceptable, however, there is a few requirements. I will probably get it completed within a week of request.

~ Reference Art must be large enough for appropriate detail.
~ You must include a front, left or right, and back reference of the image.
~ Example reference art could include drawings, or photographs.
~ Characters, Weaponry, Furniture are a few examples.

Right now I am currently going to model 3 simple characters I've completed in my animation class a year ago.

Next I will render Jessica Alba's Face in 3dsMax. I want to be very intricate with this one so bump, displacement, specular and Fresnel maps will be intricately placed onto the model. This will be created as realistic as possible to my best ability following a SOng Hye Kyo tutorial.

After that I will deviate up a model using another reference pic. Here I will learn how to project a low poly cage onto a high poly mesh. I will learn to place a normal map onto a character following a tutorial...

After that, who knows whats next.

~animeloveforever:iconanimeloveforever: Jun 30, 2008, 11:41:03 AM
you are really good. maybe far from really professional? but not far from good, I find.
good luck to you too, I hope you will become a famous game designer. don't give up, okay?
I want to become a manga artist, but I don't think someone like me can do that. I will experience a lot more, like you said. thank you.

Oh yeah, that is the performance ideals that I left you off with but heres an external link for other known sources that could help you out with realism...

well theres one thing that has been motivating me. Money. Probably the one difference that makes me and someone else different when it comes to skills comes to their reasoning. I would like to draw as a profession which possibly leads to a career choice in game design. It may not specifically help me in modeling but its something I want to keep up. Most people do not draw as a profession, so they have no motivation to keep going. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

1. You need a reason to keep going.
2. You have to practice and TIME. [I do not work at all so I am able to spend my time doing what I want to do.]
3. You must stick with it.
4. Learn through experience and reads.

Likewise I draw very slowly so I am far from good. I actually learned quite a bit through tutorials, when it comes to photoshop, especially. But my traditional works were actually completed by other intents, moreso as a hobby. I learned through experience alone mostly... whether that is understanding depth... specific light reflections. secondary reflection... ect.. Understanding how light affects surfaces... theres the highlight, light area, shadow area, reflected light... cast shadow... ect..

oh yeah: this is the same for your brother. really talented
~animeloveforever:iconanimeloveforever: Jun 28, 2008, 1:53:03 PM
you are so talented (piano and art)! I am so jealous. I want to draw like you. At the primary school, everyone was like ''wow, you can draw so good.'' But that was not true, it was just that they couldn't draw and we were still little kids.
At the middle school, there are people who can draw so good. I began to see that my drawings were nothing compared to theirs. Even though we were of the same age. I don't know how to draw with depth (dimension?). I don't know how to draw shadows. I can only draw like a kid, with no talent at all. Can you teach me how to draw like you? Or put a video about it. It's okay if you don't have time for it or if you don't feel for it.
I like your videos, don't stop posting videos about your stuff and what's going on. Because I like to see/hear how you're doing.

oh so you are going into animation school? that's quite interesting. Matter in fact prior to game schooling I was aspiring for a degree in animation.... ironically though even though I've developed better work habits, I am still heavily interested in the artistic side of gaming, hence which has led me back to animation. SO you have used maya? Let me know how that works for you... I am currently using 3dsmax.... a somewhat replicated version of maya... I am trying to learn a little more about lighting and texturing.... espeically with the renderer

Well I want to note that photoshop comes with alot of brushes... your friend is the brushes.... cause you can use your wacom to create a more life like brush setting weight, and opacity and what not... Its one of the main things that I take advantage of in photoshop...

I still think you should embrace the things that you are good at... I don't think abstract animation would be a bad thing.... In fact a style that is very similar to your one artwork would probably quite fantastic... you just need the habit of doing the work... and put it int production..

FF? well i've considered it actually.. but they are so tidiously involoving that I don't think it would be proper... however I am learning one piece ... that I probably should get posted fairly soon.
~yoojeong:iconyoojeong: Jun 26, 2008, 7:03:56 PM
만호 씨,thanks for the input! ( if only you wrote these things on my profile so i will remember them!~lol)

yeah my style is in some sense tradition when it comes to digital art and i love collages & abstract art. i will download more textured brushes, cause im new to PS painting and such, but im starting to learn more stuff now! ~^^
but well im doing animation in school right now so i cant only work on messy collages and abstract art, ya know?
(although ill still continue to wrk on it~(X )

and well i hope to hear you play another piano piece soon ^^~ a FF one will be nice. haha.

and all the best with your games~!

( im learning maya right now..heh)
